About

Barrington Brolly is a small, unique, custom business, creating umbrellas, and hand-held parasols, to meet client wishes.  A whisper of eras, long gone?  Could be.  And that's what makes Barrington Brolly so unique, so special.

From individual clients, to New York City's Broadway, to film and movie creations, Barrington Brolly has been, and continues to be, on the world stage, for very special umbrellas, and hand-held parasols.

When you order an umbrella, or parasol, from Barrington Brolly's alter-ego, Joan Barrington, there will be various options, for you to consider.  And until all the options are determined, a price for your custom umbrella, or parasol, cannot be provided.

Do you want something on a pre-manufactured frame?  Or perhaps a frame that is hand-constructed by Joan, using walnut-wood?  What length of the frame itself, and the ribs?  And better yet, would you like some of the frame's components to be metal - - or perhaps components made of brass, that have been finished in 24K gold?

And we haven't considered the canopy yet ....  the design, or the colour(s).

Decisions, decisions ......

Background Details, and a Touch of Trivia (ok ... Bragging   )

Established March, 1995, when formally registered with the federal government

First website created by Joan, herself, in 1997, using a "how to" book from Future Shop.  At this time, website designers were charging $10,000.00, to create your website.  In today's dollars, that would be $17,804.88 (Bank of Canada).

In 1995, Joan took information to an Ottawa print shop, to create her first business cards.  The clerk jokingly asked why she had "Canada", as part of the address ....  was she going to sell beyond Ontario (let alone Canada?).  Joan replied "Yes".  The cards were created.

First Canadian stage production, using Barrington Brolly products, was The National Arts Centre, Ottawa.  Currently, Barrington Brolly custom umbrellas, are on-stage, at the Shaw Festival, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Barrington Brolly's first connection to New York City, was a call received in 2010, from the fashion house of Oscar de la Renta, interested in learning more about Barrington Brolly.

The following year, and in 2012, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, filmed at Lexington Avenue Armory, NYC, and televised world-wide.

Followed by "The Coast of Utopia", "Hello, Dolly!", "Beetlejuice", "Parade", and "New York, New York", all on Broadway.

Film productions, to date, include "The Underground Railway", "Slumberland", and "The Gilded Age".

Then there are the individual clients/reenactors, of Barrington Brolly, who are known to travel world-wide, to take part in historical reenactments.
